Why We’ve Moved From netdreams.co.uk To idstudio.co.uk

For over 25 years, netdreams.co.uk has been the home of our London-based web design agency. It’s a domain that carries history, credibility, and strong organic search performance across a wide range of competitive terms.

So why change it?

The short answer is brand clarity, long-term growth, and international expansion into Australia.

The longer answer deserves a little more explanation.

A Legacy Domain With Strong SEO Rankings

Netdreams was the original trading name of the business, and over the years, the domain built significant search engine authority. From an SEO perspective, it consistently performed well across web design, web agency, development, and digital marketing keywords, particularly in London.

Because of that, and the worry about losing those rankings, we deliberately delayed changing the domain - probably to our detriment.

Domain migrations, when handled badly or rushed, can cause drastic SERP losses. Given our long-term SEO strategy (and the advice we give our clients), we waited until the timing was right and everything was in place for the move.

We didn’t ignore SEO when making this decision. We understood the importance of keeping our SERPs, even though we knew we might take a temporary hit.

The migration was carefully planned and executed with:

  • Full 301 redirects from all key URLs
     
  • Preservation of existing link equity
     
  • Initially, keeping exactly the same internal site structure

This ensured that existing rankings, authority, and historical value from the old domain were carried across to idstudio.co.uk as cleanly as possible.

Moving forward, this will also allow us to build future authority under the correct brand, rather than continuing to invest in a domain that no longer represents the business.

In recent months, we’ve also opened a new office in Perth, Western Australia, allowing us to offer 24/7 web design services, support, and maintenance to existing and new clients.

As we expanded internationally, brand consistency became even more important. We needed a domain that reflected our international studio.
