Studio Spicer is an architecture practice that delivers projects for both residential and commercial clients throughout the UK. Founded in 2010 by partner Oliver Spice, the practice has been shortlisted for the RIBA West Midlands awards. As the studio evolved, its existing brand and website no longer reflected the quality, clarity, or ambition of its work.
Studio Spicer commissioned ID Studio to redefine and position their brand and work to modernise their logo. This was followed by a complete website redesign based on the newly defined brand, aimed at showcasing their projects and generating enquiries. The goal was to elevate their brand and align their digital presence with their reputation for RIBA-shortlisted excellence.
During initial client meetings and brainstorming sessions, we identified the following issues with the current brand and website:
A comprehensive discovery and exploration phase that included:
With this information, we proposed creating minimal, confident branding paired with a calm, image-led digital experience designed to let the architecture speak for itself while guiding visitors naturally to make contact.
‘We love working with clients like Studio Spicer, as they have such an impressive portfolio to work with. They had a clear understanding of what they required, allowing their work to take centre stage, supporting growth and lead generation.’ Michael Macneil, Creative Director.
Our design team worked closely with Studio Spicer to create a visual identity that truly reflected their business and approach. This was achieved through the following:
One of the main objectives of the redesign was to showcase Studio Spicer’s impressive portfolio and the quality of their work. The look and feel needed to create a professional, modern and clean layout with intuitive navigation. Key design and UI principles included within the design:
The final design is a visually stunning website that enables Studio Spicer to effectively display its projects and enhance brand prestige.
It was important to Studio Spicer to be able to add new projects in-house without the added expense and time delay of using a third party. They needed a system that was lightweight, search engine-friendly, powerful, yet easy to use.
Unlike other agencies, ID Studio is not tied to a specific content management system platform. We recommend the most suitable system depending on your project's specific needs. Based on our experience with similar projects in the architectural and landscape sectors (Rosebank, Kinross House, Landform Consultants, Ryan Alexander Associates) and a technical evaluation, we determined that the two best fits for their requirements (simple, lightweight, intuitive) were WordPress and ProcessWire.
After demonstrating both platforms, Studio Spicer selected ProcessWire because it was better suited to image-heavy websites with its clean code output and lack of bloat. As with all projects involving a CMS, we provided video instructions that demonstrate how ProcessWire works, ensuring the team can update the site with confidence.
Following the launch, the new brand and website immediately improved how Studio Spicer presents itself and engages prospective clients - resulting in the following improvements:
